Our History
W. C. McQuaide, Inc., has been a Logistics Specialist for more than 75 years. Founded in 1936 by the late, William C. McQuaide, in Apollo, PA. The company started as a truckload flatbed carrier hauling steel from Apollo, PA to thirteen states. The company became a contract carrier for Bethlehem Steel Company in Johnstown, PA in 1949 and moved the corporate office to Johnstown in 1951.
In 1962, McQuaide purchased a small carrier with general commodity authority and began to expand its customer base. An LTL division was formed in 1963 . The family’s second generation continued to expand the authority to where, by the late 70’s, McQuaide was the only LTL carrier that had state-wide authority and served every point in Pennsylvania daily. The company became known as McQuaide Freight Lines and through interchange agreements with almost every LTL common carrier became their Pennsylvania connector line. McQuaide was the first and for a number of years the only carrier to provide daily overnight LTL service between all points in Pennsylvania.
In 1973, a new division was formed: MCS Warehousing. The warehousing division continued to expand over the years and additional buildings were built and purchased. The name was changed to MCS Logistics to better reflect the expansion of services provided.
After Pennsylvania was deregulated in 1995, McQuaide continued as an LTL carrier until 2000 when that division was closed and the company concentrated on its other two divisions: Truckload and Warehousing.
